Fiction Class - Susan Green

To be honest is to open yourself up to people thinking you're crazy...

I couldn't get out of bed for most of today. Tiredness had seeped into my bones and i could barely move. So i read Fiction Class. It was about a woman who ran a writing class for eleven very different individuals. And straight after the class, she would visit her rapidly declining mother in a nursing home. It wasn't a bad book. But it was predictable. The older man who came to class became her lover, the fragmented class grew together, the mother died - but not before she and her daughter got over their differences. Predictable. But not bad.

The writing classes have a way of making people open up. There's no way that you can't reveal a part of yourself when you write something. Even if you're actively trying to hide your true self behind a cover of words, you're really just revealing another faucet of your personality. And the book was right in saying that being open and honest will quite possibly lead to someone thinking that you're just a little bit crazy.

The best thing was all of the writing exercises that were included in the book. They were pretty interesting. I'm going to try them out (yes, yes, i wish i could write...) and see how they go.

It's been a very unproductive day. I've been alone with my philosophical thoughts for a little too long though!
