Your inner voice, your conscience, the little devil-angel pair that resides above your shoulders. Always just thought that it was some figment of your imagination? Well, recent research proves that this theory is, in fact, incorrect. Investigations undertaken by genuis year-twelve students has recently proven that there is no imaginative voice in your head that tells you what to do, or informs you that you have just committed social suicide. Rather, in a little compartment at the back of your brain, there is actually a little man, sitting there, who does the job in person.
No, we aren't on drugs. We're deadly serious. Got a stress headache? It's the little man kicking at your temples in frustration. Confused or overwhelmed? That slightly floaty feeling comes from the little man running tight little circles in his compartment until he is too dizzy to stand. Bored or incredibly tired? Picture the little man standing there, stupidity scrawled across his face, mouth hanging open, perhaps some drool. Having a wall moment? The little man is probably smashing his head against the side of your skull. Weak kneed when he talks to you? He's oversome with endorphins and has collapsed.
Am i creating an image here? Obviously everyone's little man reacts to things differently, so these aren't always universal examples, but they do come close! So, next time you're about to rip out your brain and throw it against a wall because it's defective, think twice. Chances are, the little man wouldn't be removed and you'd be no better off but in a lot more pain! Research continues, but the next idea to try is seeing if the little man responds favourably to kindness - do you think we could bribe him to make us happy all the time?
