There's Nothing Like A Good Book

Is It Strange To Be Jealous Of Fiction?

I'm sitting here, tears in my eyes, having just finished a good book - one that i've read countless times before, nonetheless. Everything ended well, but there was enough sadness to leave an imprint. It's left me completely jealous of the main character, her great friends, her functional family and her drop-dead gorgeous boyfriend - and, most importantly, her happy endings.

Is it strange to be jealous of something that isn't real? Obviously, this book is fictonal for a reason. There is no way that things would ever work out that neatly in real life. Even so, i can't help but hope that, one day, things will be just as perfect in my life.

I know i'm not the only one who thinks along these lines. I know for a fact that Noodle and Miha are in agreement with me. This book is merely one in a long line that has left us wistful for the things that happen to characters that we only dream about. I'm talking Avalon Heights, Mediator, Queen of Babble... yes, there is a definate similarity between these books. They're all chick flicks to the extreme and probably far below my reading ability. Actually, i know for a fact that they are, but i don't really care :P

I think that escaping into a fantasy world is something that we're all guilty of at one time or another. I love the fact that i can run away from reality simply by burying myself under a blanket with a few hundred pages worth of distractions.

Next time you're looking for something to tear you away from the realities that are less than pleasing? Grab something my Meg Cabot, Cath Crowley, Jaclyn Moriarty or one of the many other authors who seem to know exactly the right way to alleviate the blues and put a grin on your face.
