Not that Annie's review of 300 wasn't good (I agree with everything said) I thought just for the heck of it i'd give a mention to the message within the movie, because this one stuck particularly well with me.
It could be because as Annie mentioned we did infact study the Greek and Persion wars when we did year 12 classics and because I hold all things history related close to my heart, but this particular message, as plain and as simple as it is, deserves to be paid attention to.
'Remember us.'
That was it. Remember the Spartans and all that they fought for. Now whilst the struggle the Greeks faced by the Persian threat may not seem to be all that relevant to us today, it still has important meaning which i'll try to explain.
The battle of Thermopylae, despite being lost by the Spartans infact enabled them to go on and secure victory by the end of the second Greek-Persion wars and secure Greek freedom from the Persion empire. When you think about it, remembering the Spartans is an important message. If the gallant efforts of the 300 at Thermopylae were infact forgotten the Greeks may not have had the faith in the strength of their fighting forces to continue on to fight at the battle at Plataea and see out the end of the war and all of Greece could have ended up under Persian control and the world could have turned out to be a very different place.
So really it is important to remember the significant events in the history of the world. Im sure way back when in 500BC the Spartan soldiers fighting to keep their women and children out of slavery, never imagined that in centuries time people would be remembering their bravery and strength in standing up against the largest empire and army the world has ever seen.

(Hopefully providing you with a thort provoking movie message)
