Sin #1

LUST

"Lust is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Unfulfilled lusts sometimes lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but obviously not limited to) sexual addiction, adultery, bestiality, and rape."

Well, that's fairly straight forward. No bad thoughts. Period. Ok, so that's what we're striving for. Let's think about how the world is going in this area.

I'm thinking that it's not going all that well. Looking at it objectively, i don't see how anything could think otherwise. I've been at law school for seven weeks and already quite a number of the cases that we've studied are ones involving pedophiles. That would classify as sinful. You can't open a newspaper without hearing about another rape case, and we're constantly assaulted by warnings about date rape and such. On a lesser scale, there are the images flaunted in magazines that are simply there to tempt. There are the problems with teenagers these days. From an incresingly younger age, teenagers are engaging in activities that are definately not wholesome... loath to go into detail, because the very idea disturbs me, but the things that they are getting up to, at parties and wherever, are just insane. Unbelievably so. No wonder society is going to the dogs.

I think that, when it comes to giving into lust, society is weak. I'm not condemning society and people are free to make their own choices. In today's day and age, values are different. Not necessarily lower, but just different. That said, i really don't think that some of the things that people engage in are appropriate, nor are they right. But apparently it's more acceptable to behave in such a way these days. People are far less likely to consider their behaviour worthy of damnation than they once were. Sin, in this sense, is everywhere today. Should we worry about that? There's a reason it was problematic back then - why is it not anymore?
