Sin #2

GLUTTONY

"Modern views identify Gluttony with an overindulgence of food and drink, though in the past any form of thoughtless excess could fall within the definition of this sin. Marked by unreasonable or unnecessary excess of consumption, Gluttony could also include certain forms of destructive behavior, especially for sport, or for its own sake. Substance abuse or binge drinking can be seen as examples of gluttony therefore."

Well, this one is easily spotted in today's world. Anyone ever been to America? Turned on the news? Obesity is one of the biggest issues in the news at the moment, in terms of health. Everyone seems panicked that the world will turn into a place inhabited by giant, walking globs of fat. An idea that i will admit is not entirely unfounded. People should really just say 'no' at some point. I'd say that over-eating is an obvious form of gluttony that is easily fixed. Say 'NO'!!!!!!!!! Everyone is guilty of the occassional binge (girls, ever downed chocolate in hopes of releasing a few of those much-needed endorphins?) but it shouldn't be allowed to become a problem.

There are all of the drug problems that people face today; i'm talking meth, coke, all those illegal drugs, but this counts for cigarettes, alcohol, even coffee, i suppose. All addictions where people can't stop themselves going back for more. I know for a fact that there weren't as many addictions back when Noah walked the earth. Obviously gluttony has become something that abounds in our society.

Especially in a world where there are so many who go without, the idea that so many people do things to the excess intrigues me. Everyone wants everything that they can get their hands on. Ok, so maybe the reason behind that is that people try to use material possessions to find happiness... which is reasonable i suppose. But maybe there's another way to find happiness that having an excess of worldy things.

Gluttony seems like something that people don't even notice anymore. People want more and more out of life and won't stop until they get it. They stockpile more and more, even if it is unnecessary. It would have been a sinful monstrosity aeons ago but now it's commonplace to overfill ones life. Is it really the the way to go?

Something to think about.
