The Shortcomings Of The Human Race
Originally, the seven deadly sins were vices concerning the original man's fall into sin. These sins were meant to scare people into behaving. If people committed one of the seven sins, it was said that you would be subjected to eternal damnation, without a change at purgatory or heaven or any of that stuff. That was back when people's lives revolved around their religion.
Today, everything has changed. The deadly sins are no different. They still exist, but they no longer are things that inspire terror into people's lives. Nowadays, i'd say that they're all things that most people in our society commit regularly. In a world where we have everything at our fingertips, it's easy to forget the basics. It's easy to forget the things that kept people on the straight and narrow.
Lust. Gluttony. Greed. Sloth. Wrath. Envy. Pride.
Can you honestly say that you've never done one of these things? I'm not even going to listen to you if you say that you haven't. Not that i'm condemning you if you have! I'm just saying.
I'm going to post about each of the seven, to talk about just how often we let them into our lives. For the most part, i don't think that people see them as sins anymore, with them being such a huge part of everyday life. It's strange to think that people have let morality slip so far that they can barely see the problems that arise from these sins. Even if they aren't going to result in eternal damnation in the firey pits of hell, they surely can't improve life. We'd surely be better off without them. Wouldn't you say?
I'd say that we really should look at our lives and think about just how often we intentionally, or unintentionally, sin. We don't all need to be saints. Life wouldn't be life if we were. But surely, for the sake of humanity, we shouldn't be quite so free and easy. We should think a little about how all of our immoralities affect us and the world around us...
Stay tuned.
