Birthday Weekend

Good Fun All Round

Saturday night has Loz and i get all dressed up and head up to Hahndorf for MarriedMan's 21st! He's been planning in since around the time he was nineteen and a half, so it's been a long time coming.

We drove up there in rain so heavy that i had to go 30kmph to avoid running off the road because i could hardly see through my windscreen. I could barely make out the lanes. But eventually we made it up there. We hit the driveway, getting stuck in the traffic of one hundred and twenty guests. Apparently we couldn't park at the house, so we somehow had to make it down the driveway again and elsewhere. But we did! Then, some blind luck led us to the oval where we could park. Just as Loz and i were dismayed as we faced a looooooong walk back to the house, a random strange older man picked us up and drove us up there. Yay! Saved.

We did the birthday greeting thing and said 'hi' to everyone that we knew. Then we sat down at a table with the others from church, the fiancee and TinyTim, a (very cute) friend of the birthday boy. Dinner was more than delicious, as was dessert. We were treated to some lovely footage of a baby MarriedMan, all the way to last year. Then there were speaches, detailing some of the more memorable, more embarassing and more hilarious happenings in his life.

After the speeches, most of the adults started to head off. Then the younger ones (and the more adventurous olds) started to cut loose. MarriedMan kicked off his drinking - having been banned from doing so before the speeches - and the rest of us joined him. We couldn't let him drink alone, now, could we?!

The SouthAfrican and his brother kicked off the dancing and eventually we all joined in, unable to resist their crazy dancing antics. We all danced for ages, in a collective state of inebriation. Despite my hatred of dancing (due to the fact that i suck and am generally laughed at, yes, laughed at), i actually danced with the rest of them. When it hit midnight i was surrounded by people saying 'Happy Birthday!' - I was eighteen!!! Yay!!!

I got lots of hugs and had a big, cheesy grin on my face. TinyTim became the first offical kiss of my eighteenth year, refusing to go halfway and just give me a kiss on the cheek. The boy is hilarious when drunk. Lots of dancing later, we called a taxi, said our good-byes and headed off to the South African's place to stay the night. While we waited for the Taxi, we were amused at TinyTim stumbling around and the South African held my hand, giving me a shoulder to lean on as life became too much for me for a little while. Then it was off to our sleeping quarters for the evening.

With Loz a little worse for wear (with MusicMan, the South African and i only marginally better...), she hit the hay while the rest of us watched the cricket - or, in my case, stared at the screen and listed all of the ways that cricket is incredibly boring in my head. I had a bite of peanut butter and vegimite on toast, which i am not totally a fan of. Strangely salty. Odd. Then we headed off to bed.

I was sleeping with the South African (in the comfiest bed in the world), due to the fact that Loz needed a bed to herself. I was freeeeeeeezing cold, so the South African cuddled me up to stop the incessant shivering. Once we'd finished talking, it was near 4am so we were exhausted and fell off to sleep pretty quickly. I had a great nights sleep - i always sleep better when i'm not on my own. Maybe i'm a lonely sleeper. So the five hours sleep seemed like longer.

Later that morning we awoke, moving veeeery slowly. We put some music on and had a chat before we were joined by MusicMan. Later, Loz - our little sleeping beauty - awoke too and came in. We spent a few hours lying in the comfiest bed in the world, listening to music, before we found the energy to get upstairs for breakfast. Or at least to contemplate breakfast.

Point: You know when you wake up in the morning and you can't tell if something actually happened or if it were a dream? That happened to me this morning. Either there are some incredibly strange and possibly worrying things going on in my subconscious, or, this morning i experienced one of the most bizzare occurences of my life to date. Not bad, but bizzare. Now, being the only person in my subconscious, i'm having serious issues in decided whether or not it happened and am 100% stressed trying to figure it out!

Around lunchtime, the South African's dad dropped Loz and i back at the beetle and we headed home again. I dropped Loz off and raced home for a family lunch (at which i had to eat something - which was really not a good idea) and then Roz came to visit. She drove me to Colv's place, where Freckles and a few of the others had gathered for a surprise BBQ for my birthday :D Aren't they sweet?! I got a book and some cruisers, having a generally good afternoon. A few hours later, Roz dropped me home, i did a little homwork (neverending, i tell you) and headed off to church.

The guys there sung my fourth happy birthday rendition for the day and gave me a cake - thanks Loz! I got pressies - lovely ones - from Loz and MusicMan, which was really sweet of them. SD was home from his holiday, so it was great to see him. I got a guitar lesson from the South African (him attempting to serenade me with another 'Happy Birthday' on the guitar) and then hitched a lift home with MusicMan, where we had one of our now rather usual hour long conversations about everything and anything, including a discussion on whether or not i had been dreaming that morning. Then i headed inside for more homework.

I've got to say that, with one more hour of my birthday left, that it has been a fantastic weekend. Thanks to everyone who made it special and looked after me! You guys are the best. Can't wait until next year :P Although it will be hard to top this one! I've had a great time.

Annie
