Heads Or Tails

When i was little, i was never one of those children that dreamed about being a Royal. I never really wanted to be a princess, or a queen. I just liked being myself as a kid; it was the world around me that i used to dream about. I dreamt up a world with fairies and wizards and animals that could talk to me. I could fly, i had magic powers - i was going to save the world.

I guess i just never found the appeal in sitting on my bum all day, waving royally, wearing a stupid poofy dress (i was such a tomboy as a kid) and waiting for my prince to come along. Sure, maybe in my imaginings i'd possibly get rescued by people, and maybe that person was a prince; but i was never the princess and it never had anything to do with being a part of the Royal family!

We were talking about castles at girls group the other night. The book proffered an image of a big, white castle, with turrets and flowing flags... it's was very girly. Far too girly for me! I always wanted to live in a castle, but one that was old and full of history, with trapdoors and secret passageways and big, wide windows that i could sit in. Fully equipt with modern heating, of course! One with trees and a stream tricklinh past outside, on top of a hill so that i could see the whole world. But i'd want to live there as me, not as some pretentious Royal, who spends her time attending official functions, learning how to walk with a book on her head and behaving with impeccable manners at all times! Boring!

I don't think i'm cut out for the Royal life - not even in my imagination! Maybe i'm better off just having my own adventures as a regular person. I think you can have much more fun that way!!

I agree. Being born British I feel free to say that as a whole the Royal's are a royal pain in the ass, but they attract the tourists so they are good for the economy.

Sounds like my kind of house, though I would not want to sit around in my poofy dress all day!

My parents were always dragging my sister and I to walk through model homes so they could see different floorplans, and I remember one that had a dumbwaiter and service stairs and what seemed like secret rooms (just finished attic and crawlspaces for extra storage, but as a kid it seemed much more exciting than that). I love the idea of a castle full of trapdoors and hidden passageways!

Happy HoT!

Oh, I feel the same way about castles! I would make a terrible Lady as I don't could never take a backseat to a man!

But I do love castles, the history and would love to explore them nowadays.

Ohhh I really have to agree with the style of castle you prefer!!!! Especially the trapdoors and secret passageways!!!

Have you ever read the Stephen King book "Eye Of The Dragon"? That's what this post reminded me of. One of his best books in my opinion. :)

Well I have my own castle, even it it does look like a one bedroom apt to others. Somehow it's not quite how I thought it would look when I was young though. Happy HOT day!

Oh me too, me too. I'd much rather have been climbing trees than wearing those lousy pink poofy sleeved dresses!!!

Oh, amen. I'd live in a castle (modern, with modern conveniences), but I wouldn't want to be stifled or stuffy or any of that. And I'd have a coffee shop in the attic or basement or somewhere for lattes whenever I wanted one :)
