Kids Club Day #5
So, day 5 was finally here and i was stoked to go ice-skating. 8am start, we were on the bus by half nine and all set to go. Woo! Bri came with us, which was cool. After the task of getting 34 kids into the right sized skates and all buckled up, we were on the ice... but not before a swinging door hit me in the face, oops! We skated for a few hours - i even managed to progress past my workable, but bizzare looking, one-foot skating. Now, more often than not, i can skate with both feet!! Granted, this came only after an hour of throwing my arms out to keep my balance when i had to suddenly stop and being pulled around the ice by skaters far more graceful than myself. Still, i was skilled enough to help the little darlings around the ice, pick them up when they fell and coax them onto the ice when they were too scared to move. We had a great time!
When we got back, we had a party - party food (albeit cooked by the kids; jelly swamps with frogs in them, marshmellow cones, honey joys...), a giant bouncy castle, air-hockey, sing star, eye toy, games - we basically just let the kids just chill out for the afternoon, which they loved and we leaders really appreciated. I nearly fell asleep at one point, at another i had an adorable little girl cuddled up on my lap. I put out fights over the eye toy, sampled their cooking (a dangerous activity!) and hung out with some of the other leaders. When the kids started to clear out - at last! - a few of us were outside supervising the bouncy castle, which we weren't allowed to go on, no matter how desparate, because we were too old... so, of course, eventually we succumbed and we snuck on, under the pretence of 'just checking to see it was alright'... it was so much fun!!!!! We turned somersaults down the slide, did flying slam dunks from the stairs, rolled and tumbled around... at one point, i rolled off and hit my head on the gravel, leaving a nice lump, but it was worth it. One of the little ones was using me as a climbing beam, so i definately was a little worse for wear by the time i finished! Still, it was the most fun that i've had all week!
We had our de-breif, cleaned up and had a pizza party, which consisted of us shovelling food into our faces and falling asleep on the table. Most of the leaders left, before the rest of us stayed for a mission group meeting. After planning some fundraising, we left for home. I got changed, picked up some of the church people and we headed to the Oxford. I was driving, far too tired to stay out late, but had promised to make an appearance. In the end, it was three of us, and two friends of one of the girls. It was a tad awkward, but mainly becaues i'm so hopeless in groups of people i don't know! On the whole, the two of us that didn't know the others just chatted to each other and the night was pretty ok. Oh - i did get a parking ticket though, and that was pretty aggravating! I was meant to go out somewhere else afterwards, but was so tired that i could barely drive, so ended up going home; i had to work the next morning, so needed to be able to get out of bed!!
It's been a crazy long week, i'm exhausted, but the kids had a great time at KC, wihch really makes it all worth it. I don't think i did too bad a job for my first run! Definately have plenty to improve on though... i'll work on it! Only about twelve weeks until the next one...
Finally, i can get some sleep!!
