Heads Or Tails

The girls and i tend to nickname people. There's the elephant girl in our lecture who runs down the stairs, clomping like an elephant, 20 minutes into every lecture. There's the know-it-all redhead whom nobody can stand. There's Bubble-Boy (with his head in the clouds), Witch-Boy (my Wiccan, jewellery-making friend), Rudolph, Fish-Boy, Genius-Boy... they're hardly original, but they're nicknames all the same.

Sometimes, nicknames come in groups, inspired by popular culture... like Grey's Anatomy. One night, after watching the gorgeous McDreamy fight it out, tooth and nail, with the beautiful McSteamy, we were so inspired. Within minutes, it was established. I had a McTeeny (i adore him, despite his unfortunate shortcomings in the height department), a McMeanie (whom i loved, but wasn't always the nicest guy) and my very own McDreamy (unique to me, his dreaminess didn't extend to the universal status that Patrick Dempsy has won).

It once again raised the issue of whether or not McDreamy's could carry the name if it wasn't one that was universally recognised. We decided that yes, it could, because (thank goodness) we don't all want the same things in a man. So, my McDreamy was mine and mine alone.

All was well in the world... until i got an unpleasant suprise. I'd made a deal with a friend, which meant i owed him anything he wanted. After weeks consideration, the deal had been made; i was to spend some of my Oakbank winnings on drinks. Easy. The suprise? When the deal changed, and i had to tell my McDreamy my nickname for him... unable to back out of the deal, i spilled. Wow, awkward! But luckily, we managed to blow past the awkwardness and see the hilariousness... we're getting really good at blowing past the awkward, but making it past this one was a much more welcome suprise! It's always unfortunate when your McDreamy makes yuou explain to him exactly what a McDreamy is and why he fills the description!

Still. At least i had my very own McDreamy (complete with complications) for a little while!
