Oh how time flies! Whether or not your having fun, she's still hurtling and flying along at a most alarming pace! Amazing fact number one; I am creeping stealthily up on eight months abroad. Amazing mind boggling fact number two; tomorrow will be not my first but second time in Legoland!
Did you hold onto your hats? I hope to goodness you did, I dont want to be held responsible for the loss of personal belongings!
Ailie here by the way, I'm sure you could tell, from the fact that I have'nt mentioned any PB's, Angel's, Sporting Buddy's or Dr B's! Just joshing you Annie, OH I didn't mention him either... :)
Anyway, before I get carried away in the hilarity of the moment I should get down to business and tell you all what on earth I have been up to.
Many wonderful things have happened. I think since last time I wrote on here, (I didn't bother to read it again, spider crawling up your back sort of thing), I have been all over the place!
Let me tell you all just about me going away, Ulm's lovely and all, it's got the highest church spire in the world and its not scarily OTT as some of the others cathedral's Ive visted have been but it's wonderful to get away.
The family and I went again to Austria where I conquered yet another mountain and it was magnificent, truly spine tingling and a massive feeling of insignificance overwhelms you! Those mountains are pretty big. The mountain we climbed was at some points so steep you had to climb it like a tree! And the entire treacherous way up I thought of the fabulous calf workout, it took a while. Whilst there in Austria also went for a paddle in a freezing lake and grilled some wurstchen german style whilst sitting in the "sand" (much more like dirt) and of course the lunch included trying to get the sand dirt off the wurst once dropped by every kiddlywink there.
Even before this trip away, (too much to recount), I went away for a week on my lonesome, to Vienna (Austria, no kangaroos) and Prague (Czech Rep.), which was awesomely wonderful and incredibly tiring. I'm not a backpacker, I'm a suitcaser. Vienna was a classically beautiful, culturally rich city. Art and opera galore. I came away a ginormous Sisi fan, who was the beautiful, eccentric but misunderstood empress, who lived in Vienna. Fabbo dvd series with Romy Schneider that is played to death in this household. Anyhoo, whilst there I visited many a gorgeous castle, climbed many a high thing to get yet another city view, went to the Spanish Riding school, and saw "Die Zauberfloete" at the Opera where I majestically sat in a box (worth fifty euros) which through charm and a basketful of I'm a confused-me-no speaka-no-german- travelling student, got for eight! I then bussed it to Prague, which was in a word verruckt. I've never understood a city layout less. Thank godness for the tourist trap that is Charles Bridge, otherwise I dont think I would have found my way outta there. Stayed in the world's worst hostel and found the world's most lovely people. I found Americans who didn't fit the stereotype I had wrongly fixed in my head, I found Danish blokes with incredible senses of humour who were able to charm entire rooms of people wherever they went, I found Americans who correctly fit the stereotype now fixed not so tightly in my head. I generally found people who cared and were genuinely interested in people, their stories and places. Two thumbs up to Prague. Ask to see my Prague necklace when I get home.
The other week, I went to Berlin. I urge all those who haven't been or aren't planning to go there to think again or even book a ticket. I am head over heels in love with this place. Every single thing you look at in this city is a piece of incredible human history. This city is simply a story you will only begin to get your head around when you get your butt over there. There are purposely left bullet holes in buildings. Whilst there I got back to my roots with some good old aussies. I met two little slices of home and "squeezed the blood" out of them, luckily their heads didnt go that way and there legs that way. Oh how I love Australia and Australians, but most importantly and simply how I love friends and family.
Next exciting development in au pair ailie's away adventure (oh yeh check out that alliteration mrs dowd). Was the leipzig loop, where I got to see more of the east of germany, where the communist buildings are truly horrid and bleeps on the flat landscape. However, I got to to do sweet things whilst there. Zum Beispiel a ride on a pirate ship with real pirates (yes grown men in costumes, kids looked sweet as buttons with their "authentic" life jackets and pirate head scarves) went to the "beach" and visited a brown coal mine. Where we went right into the mine and stood next to the humungous diggers whilst they were working. I look lovely in an orange hard hat.
These are all pretty wonderful things I think! There are down sides such as missing out on hearing your wonderful voices and feeling your love filled hugs, but am proud that I undertook such a journey. There have been difficulties a long the entire way beginning from when I didn't tell my dad for the first six months or so that I was leaving. And there are still difficulties such as I cant find my return ticket and mum may shoot me as she could have to pay again... But the outside adelaide experiences I wanted so badly are around me all the time and I think I'm a much better dinner party guest now. Add me to your list.
Not bad ey
Ailie
p.s I hope this entries effort is appreciated, I practically had to write it twice as some words I can think of only in German.
p.p.s extra effort as it is about the only thing I've written in eight months, hence the terribleness
ppps yep i said terribleness
