Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

*possible spoilers upcoming for those who haven't finished the book yet!*

Yesterday was officially the end of an era. The seventh and final Harry Potter book came out. For the last time, we all lined up for a copy of a book that we would then spent the entirety of the day avidly reading. Ever since i started reading the HP books when i was in year four - so that would make me about nine or ten - i've been one of millions who's been on tenterhooks, awaiting the moment when we'd finally discover how J. K. Rowling would end the saga.

Yesterday ended that wait. I had the book by ten and was finished by six. 607 pages of emotion wrought, tense, dramatic, scary, distressing... well, you get the picture. When i saw the girls later that night, i was incredibly distressed to learn that they hadn't finished yet - so i had nobody to talk about it with!

Now come a few of the spoiler-like comments... don't keep reading if you haven't finished, ok? I want no blame for spoiling the book for anyone!

I must say that i'm very pleased with the book. I was worried that J. K. Rowling would come up with some kind of cop-out style ending. Or, worse yet, that she'd leave an opening for another book, which i don't think she can now. I was surprised that the book was so short - i couldn't figure out how she was going to tie up all of the loose ends, let alone the new ones that she created in the first few chapters alone! But, she managed and i think she did a very good job.

Towards the end of the book, things started to get a little tense as i started to get an inkling that dear Harry may meet an unfortunate end. I cried a little - but then things took a turn for the better and i felt intense relief. Thankfully, she did a good job of it. There was no corny revival, rather one with a sensible explanation. It was very satisfying. I didn't think that she'd let harry die; it would have been terrible symbolism! Can you imagine the message that it would send? That the only way to defeat evil is for good to die with it. No way.

Ok, so i'll stop ranting about the book now. I just wanted to express just how immensley pleased i am about how the era ended. A good plot, a face-paced but well written novel, aimed at people my age, that wrapped up all of the loose ends that needed to be wrapped. I'm sad that it's all over though. It's like leaving a part of my childhood behind. Still. Good book.

Tell me what you think about everything!

Annie
