Junk Food Crawl
At a loss for something to do on a Friday night as usual and dying for a catch-up with some of the old gang, we headed out for an adventure. After a 10-hour day at 'work' i was already exhausted, as were Rose and Hani. But we decided to push all tiredness aside and hit the streets. We had to drop a friend in town, then decided to drive around Adelaide to spend the millions of vouchers that my mother gives to me, which expire sometime soon. Sound incredibly boring? Well, we figured that with our usual aptitude for finding the fun in even the dullest situation we'd manage.
We started on a hunt for the drive through bakery that Roz discovered - and discovered for ourselves that it was closed. Next we visited Maccas and got dinner. Easy. We then drove halfway across town to another Maccas - in search of a Hungry Jacks. We went through the drive through, bought a bottle of water and scored some free sauce, then asked for directions to the closest HJ's. The woman obviously decided not to point us in the direction of the competition so we set out on our own. Finally finding one on West Tce, we meandered through, buying a single 30 cent cone (which, by the way, have gone up to 40 cents!!!) and asked directions to a KFC. This lady was really nice and pointed us in the right direction. Back in the direction we'd just come from, we drove through and asked our lovely window server, Josh, to fill up our water bottle for us, offering to pay. The delightful boy said he'd do it for free - and pointed us in the direction of the nearest Maccas. Definately our most successful stop.
Bored with this game (not that it had ever actually been all that interesting), we headed to Cold Rock. We got there and found it far too busy, leaving without stopping. We decided our last stop for the night would be the 24hr bakery on South Rd, where we got a single hot cross bun. Yum. Then we headed back to our cars. All that driving around and visiting food chains and what did we end up with? A burger, fries, 1/3 of an ice-cream and 1/3 of a hot cross bun. Lol, but we were stuffed, so it worked for us.
I must say, with our tiredness, with so much work to do the next day and with such different lives now, we just didn't have the stamina to make the night more fun. So, we were home by 10.30. We'd managed a great three hour journey. But it was good to see the girls. The night wasn't a total bust!
Next time, we'll be sure to get it right. Until then, we have to utterly hilarious looks of utter confusion on the faces of the drive-through people to keep us amused.
