Where To Find Fun In The 'Burbs
Ok, in my wide and varied life experiences as an Adelaidian Teen, i can tell you that i completely sympathise with the need to find something fun to do around - other than seeing ANOTHER movie and spending money or going into town... and spending more money RESULTING IN MY BEING BROKE! So, as you can see, at least until we're 18, we'll have to find alternative entertainment before we all die of lack of funding and boredom.
So, here are here are the suggestions we have for you guys...
1) THE ZOO!
Yep, an old faithful. I went to the zoo the other day for the first time in years (granted, it was with about 60 kids in tow, 10 of the naughtiest being my group!) and i actually had a great time! It's all been done up so it's architechturally heaps nicer and there's wicked land-scaping. Plus lots of those little nooks and crannies full of loads of tropical plants and stuff where you can just chillax (like the new word of the week?) for awhile. Plus, there are, of course, all the animals! (Duh) The tapirs, dwarf mongoose, meerkats, fairy penguins, hippos, otters, seals, monkeys, everything! All very cute. And if you're in for more of an adventure, try the spiders room *shudder* i still have nightmares after a certain someone grabbing me in a bear-hug and pushing me into a wall of spiders... and then spending the rest of the afternoon in cahoots with the midgets, tickling fingers up my back and accross my neck, pretending i had spiders on me, in my hair... laughing hysterically when i'd jump or shriek - or whack on of them... ohh... not fun. So, as long as you avoid the icky things, i'd definately reccomend visiting the old childhood fav!
2) ICE-ARENA
We all remember it when there was skiing, tobogganing and skating. Well, now we're down to just the skating, but there's no less fun. Pull on some skates and give it a shot - you don't need any co-ordination at all, i promise - if i can do it (albeit with a strange one-footed skating thing going on), then you definately can! I'm not even that terrible! Worried about the cold? Not a problem, a few minutes on the ice and you'll be as warm as toast. Don't want to get your fingers cut off? No worried. Urban Myth. If we took 60-odd kids tere and all we had was one broken nose, then, chances are, you'll be fine. Yay! So, let's go skating!
3) THAT COOL TRAIN AT VICTOR HARBOUR...
You all know that huge train (well, maybe it seems bigger because i was smaller the lsat time i was there?) that sits in the park near the whale house and the bridge to granite island? Well, i like it - not sure why but... - and i think it's worth a visit! But, should you be 'too cool' for the wicked train, there's always the beach and granite island itself with all of the little penguins!

4) LASER SKIRMISH
We did this the other day; picture it - 12 people, in the dark, running around with laser guns (yes, kat, they do de-tatch from the hips), aiming at bases and people while avoiding the little red dots and trying not to run into a wall... sound fun? Or at least amusing? Well, it is. Especially if you're with some guys, because they tend to be more competitive and either you get really into it, or you can just laugh at them as they compare who got the most hits :P
5) BOTANIC GARDENS
For all those people who like the little pockets of plants and stuff where it's all secret and cool (do you know what i mean?), then Botanic Gardens are the way to go. Have a picnic lunch, settle somewhere out of the mud, away from the ants and you'll have a good old time just chilling (plus it's totally free!).
6) MOONLIGHT CINEMAS
Hehe, i know it's not on until the summer but it's still so much fun! We went and saw 'Grease' last time - and ended up singing along to all the songs and doing the dance moves (on our backs) with about 100 random strangers in the middle of a park :P Good times. Plus, they always show the 'Goonies', which is just about the best movie ever! So, go. You'll have a blast. But get there early, or you'll have to sit at the back! :P
Ok, that's it from me, i know i sound slightly like tour-guide-barbie but meh. I felt like telling you all about the cool places we should visit!
