More Melbourne Adventures

I'm home from Melbourne (again)!

Caro, Loz and i headed over early thursday morning, super excited to see Coldplay that night. We had an afternoon to kill, so Loz slept while Caro and i navigated the trams to Ackland Street where we ate some awesome sushi at Oki2Go4, shopped and bought pretty clothes and star earrings, and ate cake at the famous Monarch Bakery. Yum! It was absolutely freeezing in melbourne so we were shivering like crazy all weekend! We raced home, got changed and ventured into the city. We took Caro to our favourite chinese restaurant on Little Bourke street, the Empress of China. It was a super yummy meal - but there was way too much for us to eat!

Running very late, we left for Rod Laver Arena. We navigated trams in a slight panic, not knowing if there was an opening act and terrified that we'd miss the start of things! But we were safe, the opening acts were people we'd never heard of and we didn't mind missing them. We bought tee shirts (which led to a diatribe from me; the girls tee shirts were so much crappier than the boys ones - ours don't even say 'coldplay' on them!) and found our seats together.

The concert was fantastic. Chris Martin was an exuberant and wild performer, he never stopped moving and acting. The music was amazing; even though their old music is heaps better than their new stuff, it all sounded great. At one point, the band ran up to a tiny platform in the crowd and played in the middle of everyone, crazy covers like 'I'm a believer'. There were shiny lights, paper butterflies released at one point and floating everywhere, and that unbelievably awesome feeling that you get when 12,000 people are all living their lives to the same beat and can feel it slamming through them. Awesome.

We made it home to my sisters in one piece and fell into bed. Up early to take Caro to the airport bus, Loz and i spent the rest of the day (about five or more hours) shopping at the DFO and along Bourke Street. It was great, such cheap stuff!! We spent way too much money... but got cool stuff. I'm in love with the DFO - and especially Forever New; their dresses are awesome and at the DFO they're often really cheap. Unfortunately, the ones i liked weren't in my size, gay. We splurged and got Maccas for tea, eating it infront of my sisters Foxtel... i'm embarassed to admit that Loz and i got slightly addicted during our visit and may now possibly be suffering slight withdrawl... we stayed up late watching Sex and the City, which may explain why we overslept the next morning.

Eventually, we crawled off to the zoo, which was so much fun! The gorillas were enormous and really close to the glass, there were huge elephants, giraffes, lions, meerkats, fishing cats, treetop monkeys and a butterfly house where the butterflies actally landed on us!!! That was unbelievable. We ate lunch at the bistro (weird food, cool decor) and caught the tram back into the city... where we headed back to the DFO for some last minute purchases. I got a jacket and the most awesome beanie in the world.

We had thai for tea with my sister and his boyfriend and hung about watching shows on Foxtel about secret millionaires and naked models. Then they went to bed and we stayed up until one in the morning watching more SATC - while i attempted to study.

We were up early the next morning, attempting to pack all of our new gear into our small bags. Tricky! Pix took us to the airport (woot, saved us $25!) and we bonded in the car. Woot for sisters!! We ate muffins and coffee and bummed in the airport until our flight left. Yummy pink cupcakes for plane food, and juice, magazines and an hour long flight... and we were home!!

I had a busy arvo, unpacking and trying to study before heading off to band practice, surviving church and then watching movies with English until late... i have so much study to do today that i'm freaking out slightly and am really going to start working now!!

Ahh, shopping and listening to amazing live music in Melbourne is so much better than being home and having to study!
