Mmmm, Indian

Part one of El's birthday celebration was tonight. A group of us met up for tea at the Tandoori Oven. As usual, i was completely panicked (re: borderline hyperventilating) on the way there, because i feared that i wouldn't be dressed appropriately, that i wouldn't know anyone, that i'd be awkward... It turns out, i was perhaps a tad underdressed. While i looked nice, i wasn't wearing black, which is apparently the colour-of-choice. Oh well, once we were sitting down i managed to get over that awkward hurdle.

The next one to overcome was the fact that i only knew three of the thirteen or so people, and wasn't really sitting in a spot to easily converse with them. So, i discovered that it's actually possible to make it through a three hour dinner saying approximately five sentences, smiling and looking interested in conversation that i couldn't hear. It didn't suck. It was just a tad uncomfortable.

Food was delish. We were all 110% stuffed after the main course, and then there was chocolate cake and complimentary shots. Yummy! The girls El's friends with are really nice. I like indian (reminded me so much of our mission trip in '07). She liked her pressie. Overall, i did a good job of meeting new people and not being too weird - though i definately came off as very shy.

I did, however, have to bail a tad early, because i was getting a splitting headache. I walked home, freezing and nervous in the dark streets. I love birthday celebrations... but they're so pricey! $40 for tea, $30 for pressies... ouch. Plus drinks on saturday. My poor bank account is taking a hit!

Mmm, sleepy, sleepy. Headache lingers. Time for bed.
