Rock On

Our series Rock God started last night, and Mr.Music did and awesome job pulling everything together. The music went well (Dr.B was awesome - woo!) and his sermon on R.E.M's Losing My Religion was relevant and interesting enough to keep me listening for twenty minutes.

Basic recap (or pretty much what i think was being said....)? Basically, we talked about how it's not religion that people want, but christianity. As in, it's not an endless set of rules that we're supposed to try and fail to live up to, it's not an endless guilt trip and it's not all about competing to see who's a 'better' religious person. It's like we were saying that you could ditch the religion part and just do christianity. Seems pretty sensible to me...

Thing that those of you who weren't there (shame on you!) should think about?

“I have three things I’d like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don’t give a shit. What’s worse is that you’re more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night.”

Tony Campolo said that at a Christian Uni in the USA. Guess what? There were more letters of complaint about the fact that he swore than the fact that there were kids dying by the thousands. Appalling.

It was a really interesting night - and i was really proud of the boys for the great job that they did. Can't wait until next week!!
