Tumultuous. My week has been tumultuous. But i've missed by blog, so i'm back - if only in moderation until things calm down a little. But, here are the basics...
I watched the rest of the Shawshank Redemption yesterday - i loved it. It was really sad and emotional towards the end, but the ending was satisfying and all of the loose ends were wrapped up. The acting throughout was fantastic and i was surprised at how much i enjoyed it. Then i remembered that i'm a boy at heart and love jail-break movies. But still, this one really stood out.
Work today was long, and the list of upcoming events that we have to plan is getting longer and longer as we add more to the list. We're serving at Mary Magdelene's Centre, planning a 40hr Famine launch and sleepover, having a youth camp and a blue light disco - not to mention Kids Club in less than two weeks and all of our regular youth events! Whew!
We had bible study this evening, and it was a hoot. There were only four of us and we were all exhausted, so it degenerated into hilarity fairly early on. Still studying Revelations, we're up to the sections where things are highly metaphorical. As the SouthAfrican read, Dr.B drew pictures of what he was talking about, so that we could keep track. Basically, we had a red and green stone God on a throne, surrounded by other thrones and four six-winged, many eyed creatures (lion, bull, floating head, eagle). Eventually, a bloodied lamb with seven horns and seven eyes turned up (that's Jesus) turned up and read the magic scroll that talked all about the four horses (black, white, red and pale green) that represented death, destruction, Hades and famine... it truly was a bizzare picture that was crudely drawn and, needless to say, we eventually gave up - on a cliffhanger point for next week.
This evening, i went to a movie with SB. We saw Prince Caspian. I wasn't entirely sure that i wanted to see it, as i was worried that it wouldn't live up to expectations. I needn't have wasted my time - it was fantastic! Not only were the kids who act in it really good (improved from the first movie) and Caspian was actually pretty good looking, but they'd made the movie really well. Very little was lost in translation from book to movie, and the mise-en-scene was fabulous; from the 'bad guys' who kept their accents throughout, the amazing scenery (which, admittedly, was a little too similar to the scenes in Lord of the Rings)... i really loved it. It had me on the edge of my seat. Which isn't hard, actually, because i always get so into movies. Still, i loved it. And i was pleased to see all of the Christian symbolism in the movie, it really gives a good message. Anyway, i recommend it. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD and i can get the KC kids to sit through it.
One more exam to go, this saturday - i really need to study, seeing as i really have no idea what i'm talking about... So. Off i go...
