Yesterday was Mother's Day and today was Mum's birthday. I gave her an adorable book on being grateful for mothers; funny photos of animals, with captions underneath that tell a story. It's by the same dude that wrote The Blue Day Book. Today i bought her hot pink tulips, because that's her favourite colour and she always loves to have flowers in the house. My brother washed the dishes yesterday (a big deal for him) and made her a mixed cd today.
Then, tonight, we were meant to be going out for thai - mum's favourite meal. But, dad was really sick, crying out in pain because his head hurt so much. This always freaks everyone out, because of his brain surgery last year. So, dinner was called off. When i went to get my brother from sport and was on orders to get dinner on the way home, we stopped and got her a cake, as a suprise. Poor mum, something always goes wrong on her birthday. We wanted to do something to make it nice.
Mum was absolutely stoked; she kept saying how it was the nicest two days she'd ever had. Apparently, it made her think that we weren't terrible children after all and she hadn't failed us. It was nice to know. Granted, neither my brother nor i gave big hugs and kisses, but that's just not who we are. I think she still appreciated everything though. I'm glad her special days weren't a total bust.
