Nicknamed

Sign of Affection...

Nicknames. We all have them. And i definately seem to have lots. My dad always called me Bubbles, Bottomly (thanks dad)... My uncle called me 'annabellarella' - and still does. Mum always calls me 'annabel' but from the time that my brother first started talking, i was 'ba' (yea, he didn't really have a good grasp on the english language and apparently 'annabel' was too much of a mouthful). For the next, oh, fifteen years, i was 'barley' or 'baa'. Not just at home - it caught on at school! I was four-eyes when i got my glasses - my big brother was truly kind. That's just in the family. At school i've been annie, ann, anna, bella, bell, anniebellbell, annieabubble (yes, very strange), ding (annabell - again, odd)... At church i'm anna, bella, annabella and, joy of joys, krantzky.

That's where the idea for the post came from. Krantzky. It's my new name. Don't you love it? It manages to encompass both a delightful sense of masculinity and a mental image of a german sausage. What's not to love? It's a perfect nickname for a girl.

I do understand that, in some places, nicknames are considered a term of endearment. If the idea is, the stranger the nickname, the more endeared someone is to you, then i'm happy. However... well, couldn't i have an occasional reprieve from krantzky? Not all the time. By all means, stick to krantzky if you must. But an occasional annie or annabel wouldn't go astray, would it? I'm straining to remember the last time my actual name was used :P

But hey, whatever works.

I must say, i love nicknames. I've bestowed plenty over the years. Georgie was 'Porky' for years (georgie, georgie-porgie, porky...). Lucy was Darth. Alice has been Albert. Eleni was Lanyard. Liz was Gizzard. Reece is Elmo. Teachers included the Fish, TomTom, FC, Hains, Barbie, McGazz, Blinkie... Pia has recently become Pyjamas. Nicknames are the strangest things. It's often better just not to ask where they come from! Despite what some of the girls thought, these were definately all terms of endearment :P

Ah who am i kidding. I love nicknames. Having them, giving them, whatever... still, got to say, the krantzky thing is still strange! I'll just have to work on thinking of it as a term of endearment.

Hi Annie,
I am really enjoying this post about nick-names. Everyone in our whole entire family has nick-names. It's crazy, but fun.
