MySpaces

Pondering

Earlier today i was looking at people's MySpaces, for lack of anything more constructive to do. Each one that i saw was basically the same. There was a picture, a profile, friends and comments. Occasionally, there was a blog entry or two.

I started wondering about the point of MySpace. It seems to me that the main purpose is to send messages to your friends and to recieve them. 'Collecting' friends seems to be a big thing. Very few of the MySpaces i found had more than two or three entries. Usually, these were forwards or something fairly simplistic.

Now, i've got absolutely nothing against MySpace. I've got one myself and it fits the mould beautifully; colourful, music playing, friends, a few comments and the odd blog entry. But i've got to say, if your aim is to actually say something worthwhile - actually, if you want to say anything at all and actually be taken seriously - then MySpace isn't the place. Try somewhere like Blogger or something like it. But hey, if you're in it for another way to talk to your friends, then MySpace is the way to go.

One thing i think that MySpace is actually good for is bands. A few that i know of have a space especially to promote their band, their music, their gigs and whatever. She's Alright are actaully pretty good and you can even download their music from the site. I think more local bands should try something like this; it's good publicity and, with all of the friend-swapping that goes on, heaps more people will pass on the news. Definately give it a try.

Got a MySpace that you think i should check out? Tell me about it.
