(Belated) Thursday Thirteen #6

Thirteen Things that freak me out

1. Spiders. They have six more legs than is natural, they're all furry and they DO have teeth! It's not that i'm afraid that they'll bite me, i just DON'T like the idea of them crawling on me. Last year i had two huge huntsmen on my back within two weeks of each other and only narrowly made an escape. I'm not permanantly scarred. Within reason, i think! By the way, pretending to be a spider by tickling your fingers on my neck? I'm never going to find that amusing.

2. Being all by myself. My irrational trains of thought can lead me down paths i don't want to travel. Other people keep me occupied enough to avoid thinking altogether. Plus, i talk alot and if i have to talk to myself, people look at me strangely :P

3. Crowds. Huge crowds of people tend to give me the wiggins. I don't mind if there's enough space for me to walk through without too much hassle but if we're packed in tighter than lambs on the way to slaughter then i tend to get panicky. You should've seen me when we were playing 'sardines' with the few hundred people in line at U2. Not fun.

4. The state of the world! It's freaking me out that the people who are in charge of running the counrty are seemingly more interesting in running a ridiculous little boys game of battleships. Why aren't they being more proactive about saving the world? Are they just thinking 'i'll be dead before it's too bad, so i'll just work on the fun stuff'? Surely not. It scared me that we're running out of water, temperatures are increasing, fuel is running out... not a happy planet.

5. Boys. Their insanity is scary. Especially seeing as nobody knows for certain that it isn't contagious.

6. This year! Not only do i have to venture out into the big wide 'real' world, but i'm pretty much doing it alone as most of my mates are fleeing the country or getting 'married' (in other words, have become unbearably couple-y :P).

7. Change. I HATE change! And i won't ever get much more of it than i do this year! Uni, all my friends overseas or doing their own thing instead of sitting round in a damp common room together all day... freaky.

8. Dad's operation. It's freaky because he's so sick and the operation doesn't have the best success rate... but he's going to do it anyway. And the rentals don't even talk to us about it! Poor Nick - without the advanced eavesdropping skills of his big sister, he must have absolutely NO idea what's going on!

9. Opinions. Not my own perse. But sharing them and having people diss them. Or other people's opinions of me - i pay lots of attention to what other people think of me. I think it comes from being at an all girls school/having low self esteem/seeking constant approval... it's a tiring life to always worry about what others think. I should work on that.

10. Faces. Not ALL faces - thankfully! But the scary movies that have creepy faces? They give me nightmares. Couple that with a techni-colour imagination and, within seconds, i can have convinces myself that some scary dude is leaning over the bed ready to rip my ears off with his teeth. Ouch. You know the faces in Saw, The Grudge, The Ring... they give me the willies. I even had to check under the bad after a scary episode of Dawsons! And don't get me started on Buffy monsters!!

11. Failiure. Damn my competitive nature! I HATE to lose. The thought of other people thinking i'm dumb freaks me out. I suppose that falls into the whole 'other people's opinions freak me out' thing from before, but meh.

12. Mobile phones. Text messages can be extremely nerve-wracking things. Enough said.

13. India. I leave in less than two days and it's scaring me so much that i can hardly think about it. Which really doesn't help.
