One Last Hurrah
I've been absent from my bloggie for far too long but, much to the obvious relief of all the adults i've spoken to, i wasn't in a holding cell in the Victor jail. Instead, i spent five days living it up in Adelaide's best attempt at a party. That's right - i just got home, safe and well, from Schoolies06. Completely failing to match anyone's pre-conceptions of what it would be like, we somehow managed to have a great time. Strangely, when parents ask us what we did, we can say 'very little' without being untruthful; we did spend lots of time watching tv and eating and a little time in town - however, the amount of alcohol consumed was rather understated in parental conversdations. Ah well, they surely can't expect the whole truth. :P
After hitting the hay early on Thursday night, we established out true nerdiness. I'd eventually been driven down by the mater (an experience so terrible that i'll leave it to your imagination), spent the afternoon watching Friends and the four of us read before bed. Yes, read. Yes, we admit to our geekiness. We did manage to make Roz look like a wild-haired 40-yr-old woman and have a laughing fit so loud that we nearly broke windows during a match of the 'i've-already-said-that!!!' game.
Friday saw the arrival of out two honourary-girls; Skywalker and Rudolf for the purpose of the post, along with a few other girlies. We shopped (geez, we had lots of food) and spent the rest of the day continuing in out coolness; puzzle books were devoured, sudoku games hurled across the room and Friends seasons swept through. Skywalker was surprisingly the most enthusiastic of us all... i worry about him. Tickets aquired and bandaids smuggled out of the First Aid tent from our insider contacts, we were set.
With the onset of evening, we decided to 'play flakes', which quickly became the primary occupation of the next few days. This involved being all girlie and over-obsessed about what we were wearing, with the added hilarity of knowing how ridiculous we were being. All dressed up, we carefully worked around the dry-zone rule by quenching our thirst before we left the house. We made it into town where i saved LozK from her less-than-perfect housemate and visited Noodle in the First Aid tent. Yes, she'd managed to get sick on the bus, pretty much writing off her night. Eventually we got her out of the tent. By that time, i'd lost the girls and headed back to base with a bunch of randoms in tow. Half way there a VERY drunken Bubble and English-Billy stopped us - either he was so drunk his memory was impaired or i had just fallen off his friends radar, but whatever the reason, Bubble double-took before i was recognised. Hiccoughing away, they eventually stumbled off, BB in tow. At base, everyone was sitting around, drinking again (basically the dry-zone thing meant very little). I got a call from a distressed LozK and directed her to base - i became her saviour :P We trekked to the PACers to retrieve Noodle and eventually herded people back into town. Maccas revived us and, as Sporting Buddy, Bri and i headed home, Wooley and a boy henceforth known as Stripey accosted us and gallantly offered to walk us home, despite the fact that it was in the opposite direction to where they were headed. This was amusing as we girls were probably taller than both of them so their protection would've been minimal, but the gesture was sweet. I tell you, no doubt partly because of the hot heels i nicked off Freckles, my feet were paiiiiiiinful. Ah well, the things we do!
After a night that wasn't all that eventful, we spent the next day visiting Roz's new farm, saving LozK some more, making outselves sick on Wendy's milkshakes and watching obscene amounts of Friends - just for something different! After we realised just how much Chandler we could handle, Skywalker sent us to the video shop for some chick flicks... if it weren't for his girlfriend, i tell you, he'd be a concern. With Take The Lead ready to fill his dancing-movie quota and our Antonio Banderas fettish, we spent the rest of the day straightening or curling our hair before getting ready again. Only girls could spent over an hour putting on a skirt and singlet :P One of our many talents!
Another trek into town ensued, this time much later so that we could avoid the boring kick-off to entertainment. Apparently fate was determined to keep me from spending much time in the tents; a few minutes after arrival, Sporting Buddy and BB were hooking up next to me and, not particularly enthused about watching that, though very happy for her, i bailed, following George and Sez to Maccas on a quest for... uh... fluids. However, fate must really have it in for me these days, because Sporting Buddy and BB soon joined us. Making tracks back to base (my poooooooor feet) saw an already slightly tipsy me have a few co-ordination issued. BB was holding my hand at some point - very chivalrous - but eventually returned to SB. At base, i literally chose to drown any sorrow i may have had. Unfortunately, this involved almost a quarter of a bottle of vodka, some JohnnyWalker and goodness knows what else. Walking BACK into town (seriously, i never want to see that hill again!), i became steadily more talkative and met serious issues when i had to put my shoes back on... not easy at the best of times, let me tell you! A little quality time with LozK and a visit with my toolie/volunteer, the Koala, had me slightly bashful as i saw their amusement at the state i was in. In my (menial) defense, i wasn't too bad considering. Some Maccas time with BB saw our night draw to a close as SB decided that i should probably head home. Smart girl! Alone now, we headed back again, talking over the evening before hitting the sheets around three, trying hard not to wake the rest of the house.
Sunday morning, the day of rest, did nothing to alter our pattern. More tv was watched, more movies hired, more puzzles aquired, more ice-cream devoured. We destroyed our hair with more burning and the girls from the motel joined us as we recovered Rudohlf from his girl, a pre-toolie who was down to visit. The day's highlight? Roz took Freckles and i into town where we managed to buy some more double blacks; it sounds dull but with Roz being the only legal one it seemed quite rebellious :P The Wheezer (a car :P) took a long detour home where pizza awaited, along with the now traditional flake-ishness.
My feet, still unhappy, resigned themselves to another walk into town, albeit an unsteady one. I must say, Bri and Rudolph's company was more than enough to keep me happy on the way down; Rudolph and i sharing the water bottle as we tried to convince our bodies that we hadn't just shotted a little too much Johnny... Did people understand that throwing a glowstick at me was never going to end in my catching it? Some people never learn :P Upon arrival in town, my group was tagged by a few toolies i new who dragged me in search of some kind of 'electric game', which we never found. I swear, if i didn't know better, i'd say that they were the drunk ones. After being rather impolitely ditched by one toolie, happily greeted by the Koala and told repeatedly to 'stay safe' by the third, i wandered into the dancing tent, occupying myself for awhile. Despite feeling rather awkward in more of Sporting Buddy's clothes, i actually danced properly for awhile, giggling at the individual antics of the Koala. In my single attempt to get one of the toolies i knew to dance, i was again rather rudely rebuffed. Annoyed, i gave up on attempting to stop his looking like even more of a tool than he was and i headed outside *gasp* alone! I met up with Miha and we dispared over the antics of some of our friends until i walked her to her ride home and again headed off *gasp* alone! I met up with a few of the girls and was eventually left with the Leader of our yet-t0-be-formed Posse. He and i, slightly under the weather, found Louie and the three of us headed back to the tents. Nice and cosy in the Leader's jacket, we decided we could make the walk back to base together. I stuck with the Genius and D-man for awhile, feet rather unhappy about the turn of events. BB blew us off for the caravan park, the Koala said 'bye' nicely, the first toolie continued to be a P.I.T.A and the third toolie continued to assume that i was unable to take care of myself, but the walk was altogther pleasant, especially with the chivalrous Genius carrying my shoes for me :P
Back at base it became clear that we were in for a looooooong night. Our group quickly became dubbed 'the Posse' and i got the honoured position of vice-treasurer :P With RandomBen as a total hit, the Leader all grown up and the general hilarity brought on by the freezing cold balcony, the recently consumed beer and some cold pizza, we settled in for a long one (actually, it was three by the time we were home so sunrise wasn't too far off). George was rescued from town and the 'clutches' of Fuzzy-hair-boy and Roz got 'supplies' from the Leader's place. We were good to go. After a little more to drink, Rudolph and i headed inside. What ensued became close to the best part of the weekend as we spent the next hour or so drinking his beers, reading Cosmo, doing a crossword, having proper conversations on all the walks of life and generally having a good time :) I'm easily pleased. He's so the smartest boy i've met our age - a few hours conversation and he had my personailty pegged correctly. Not to mention the fact that our conversation actually was two-sided, which is unusual for most guys i know. Eventually, nose redder than a few hours ago, he stumbled off to bed and i rejoined the posse outside. Freezing but with my stomach sore from laughing, we watched the sun come up, snuggled under our blanket and continued to discuss nothing of any real importance for the next hour or so.
Sun well and truly up, the Posse split up. The Leader took his dudes one way while George, Sporting Buddy and i walked RandomBen 'up the hill', to his place. Then Maccas filled our tummies and i managed to stay awake through How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and Wimbledon. Somehow, i wasn't too tired. That doesn't mean i actually moved much over the course of the day though! Surprisingly, we watched some more Friends and then our boys left :( Poor Skywalker was a little worse for wear after a big night while Rudolph seemed a little healthier - enough to palm off a hug at least. The rest of the day involved some minimal cleaning, fish and chippies on the balcony for tea and then i wandered up to the PACers with Roz and George. A good gossip, a loooong walk through some dark streets and a few episodes of Sex And The City later, my 40hrs of no sleep caught up to me and i fell onto the bed in a state of near unconciousness :P
I slept like a log but was up waaaaay to early. We had to clean the place from top to bottom - which included filling an entire garbage bin with bottles... whoops! With a spotless house and our many pieces of crap packed away, Sporting Buddy and i hopped in the car with Pious and home we went.
And so ends my rather long recount of schoolies - don't want to forget any of it :P Despite our having a pretty tame time, when i look back at it i just remember lots of fun times.
GO YEAR 12s 2006!!!
