I took the roommate to the movies yesterday evening. She wanted to see Australia, but i wasn't keen on sitting there for over two and a half hours. I wanted to see the new Bond but she doesn't like those movies (crazy!). We settled on seeing The Women - even though it was alllll the way out at Marion.
The movie was bizzare. It went for two hours, but if you asked me to pick the central plotline, i don't know if i could. The movie revolved around four women, but two in particular... one of whom was married to a man having an affair. At first, i thought that was the main point. But then it kind of turned into a mother-daughter thing. Then a 'i'm losing my job' thing. And then a 'finding yourself' story. It was easy to follow but something about it was just a little bit muddling. It wasn't a bad movie, but i wouldn't say it's a must see. Two of the characters were reasonably well developed, but the others had holes. I think the aim of the movie was to talk about the relationships between the women, and how they depended on one another - but this didn't come through as strongly as it could have, which was frustrating.
Something i realised as i lay in bed this morning was that not a single man appeared in the movie. Not the cheating husband, the vindictive boss, the aloof father, the new baby daddy... not one single male appeared. Which is kind of cool, and i get why they did it - but it possibly added to the vagueness of the movie. Overall, not terrible, not awesome.
We had tea after (i never knew that it was possible to screw up bruchetta - but BBQ sauce will do it), once the roommate found a place that she didn't hate; she's verrrrrry fussy. And then i took the roommate home. I was exhausted. I'm about to take the roommate to the airport - and then i'm writing my christmas cards. Woot!
