I love those words of wisdom that come from indignant speeches in movies, or soliloquies in books. They're so profound (and so unlikely to be spoken in real life). Either way, however unrealistic they may be, i love them. So profound. Here are some i picked up in the last week or so...
I heard somewhere that true love is friendship on fire (Honey, I Shrunk The Kids). This is so true. It really is what love should be like - all the comfort and conversation of friendship, with a healthy dose of burning passion thrown in. It's not all about looks, or whatever else you may use to qualify a relationship.
There are two types of girls; those you grow into and those you grow out of (Smallville - Chloe Sullivan). This is so good to hear. Affirmations from television characters that make my day. My mother - and countless other people that i surround myself with - have always told me that i'm definately the kind of person that you grow into. I reckon by the time we're all about 25, people will think my quirks are more endearing than annoying. Perfect.
The worst sin of age is to forget the trials of youth (Smallville - Chloe Sullivan). Again with the Chloe-esque words of wisdom - the writers must save all of the good stuff for her. So true - all adults seem to reach a certain age and then just stop remembering all the crappiness of their formative years. They should work on that.
Popularity vs. Nerd-dom (Late Night Talking - Leslie Schnur). Now, this is more of an idea than a phrase. Basically, the idea is that you can be a nerd, or you can be popular, or whatever group you fit into. But they're just that - groups. Not tiered, but equal. Who says that the popular group is any better than the nerds? It's society that has to change! Society has to realise that people shouldn't value one above the other...
Do you always fall in love with the rebound guy? Every time! But it's not real love. Your head tricks you into it, to protect you from the crushing pain your heart is putting you through (One Tree Hill - Brooke Davis). This is awesome. Completely puts thoughts into words. Of course you love the rebound... but it's never in the same way as how you love The Guy - the one who gets the capitals, and whose name is replaced by 'The Guy', and everyone knows who you're talking about when you mention 'The Guy'... It's a girl thing.
Sometimes people play hard to get because they need to know that the other person's feelings are real (Buffy - Xander). So true. Enough said. Simple dimple, baby.
